A fixed bridge is a non-removable dental device extremely reliable when replacing missing teeth.
The bridge is made from porcelain which is fused to a piece of metal. It has two crowns at either end which are attached to existing teeth on both sides of the missing tooth/teeth. The pontics, or artificial teeth; are attached to the bridge which will replace the missing teeth.
A dental bridge will last for a very long time. Bridges may need replacing or resetting due to normal wear and tear. This is will be advised in your normal checkup routine and is not a difficult process.
Why might I need a fixed bridge?
- To replace missing teeth
- Helps maintain the natural shape of your face
- Keeps existing teeth in place and prevents them drifting into the empty space
- Gives your full smile back
- Replaces partial dentures
- Helps with chewing and speech
Procedure
The treatment will most likely need two or more visits. The first will involve preparing the two anchoring teeth to be crowned and also take an accurate impression of your teeth so that crowns and artificial teeth are made perfectly to fit with the existing teeth.
The second visit is where the custom made bridge is fixed and any adjustments are made to ensure a perfect fit for your mouth. Once the bridge has been put in place it can then be cemented and fixed to your existing teeth.
Good dental hygene such as; brushing, flossing and regular check-ups with your dentist will ensure your bridge stays in good condition.
